Poster examples

For inspiration and an insight into conventions and ideas for album posters, i researched a few indie bands posters to see the different techniques used to promote their new albums. Here are three examples i looked at that showed both positive and negative techniques. This poster is for an indie band, The Vaccines' new album. Personally I really liked this album poster as I felt the simplicity of it made it very effective. If there was too much information or too many things going on on this photo, it may not be as effective in promoting their new album, as only the important information is included. I also liked the faded background, as it gives a subtle message as towards the theme of the album. I will take inspiration from both of these points as i feel that they will very effective as a poster for my chosen band and track. I also thought this poster, for the new Glasvegas album, was quite effective in promoting this album. Similar to The Vaccines' poster, I liked the faded image used in this poster. Although it was used in a different way, I thought it looked quite unusual and eye-catching, making it stick out in an audiences mind. I also liked the dark colours used, creating a mysterious shadow like effect across the poster. I feel that using dark colours on my poster will make it look quite mysterious and interesting, so would be effective in engaging an audience into buying the single.
Of all the album posters i looked at, I thought that this one by British Sea Power was the least effective. I didn't like the way in which several colours were used, and i felt they clashed making the poster less aesthetically pleasing. I will take this on board when creating my poster and try not to use too many colours with the risk of it clashing. Despite this, i liked how all of the writing on the poster was the same font, as it made it look quite professional. When creating my poster i will do the same, and use the same font in all writing to make it look professional.

A2 Media Progress Post

Over the past few weeks, planning and filming my video has taken priority as i have finally completed all filming of my clip. With already having filmed the performance visuals to my video I recently completed filming the other side, the narrative. I set out a plan of the different locations I would use and what each character would do at these locations. I then took my characters to each place and filmed them according to my storyboard and plans, making some minor adjustments as i went (such as filming a couple playing together on a rickety bridge at a childrens park). Once the filming was complete i took the tape to my next lesson and uploaded it to the computer. I have now started editing all of my footage to make it fit with the song played underneath.

Digipak Designs

These are my rough designs for my digipak that i drew out by hand. My final design will be based on the last rough drawing as i feel it fits with the vibes of the song best.

A2 Media Progress Post

Last week i started my filming for my video, and have completed the performance side to it. I booked out a camera from the media department and arranged for a band to cover the song on screen so it synced with the lyrics and music. I decided to film the video in my garage as i wanted to fit with the indie 'garage rock' image. The equipment used was supplied by the band, being a drum kit, 2 guitars, a bass guitar and 3 amps. I spent around 2 hours filming this side, and got an adequate amount of the performance filmed with an intro sequence as well. The only problem I ran into was the constraints of time, as i had a small 2 hour period to get it all done due to my characters having to get back to school. Despite this, I feel I got enough filming to do to cover the whole song with just the narrative side of the video to complete. I have organised for this to be done this coming wednesday, to which I should have completed all of my filming.

Music Video Storyboard

These are a few examples of the full storyboard i drew out for my video. They show in detail what i plan to film from start to finish, with information about what type of shot i will use and what is taking place on screen at the time. Using these storyboards will help me to film my video as it shows basis for planning so that i know what i want to happen throughout the clip. As my filming commences i may make some slight changes to my plans, but will keep the general plot and details shown in the storyboard.

A2 Media Progress Post

This lesson we have been shown a demo on how to create our digipak's, by using a template from the internet. We have been shown how to add our images onto Photoshop, how to resize and reshape these images, in order to fit the template's guidelines. I am starting by drawing out my digipak idea's on paper, in rough, which i will later scan onto my blog.

Rough Treatment

This is a rough treatment, vaguely outlining what will happen in my video as the song progresses. Click the picture to enlarge.
